Tonight, the Moon Stepped in Front of the Sun
Tonight, something extraordinary is happening above the UK. The Moon is passing between Earth and the Sun, covering part of the Sun from our view and creating a partial solar eclipse. The Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon — but it's also about 400 times farther away. That amazing coincidence means the Moon and Sun can appear almost the same size in our sky.

Never look directly at the Sun. Watching a partial solar eclipse requires proper eclipse eye protection that meets the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard. Ordinary sunglasses are not safe, no matter how dark they are. Children should view the eclipse with appropriate adult supervision.
