The Moon Is Slowly Moving Away
The Moon is drifting away from Earth — very slowly. Each year, it moves about 4 centimetres farther away. This happens because Earth and the Moon are constantly pulling on each other as they move through space. The change is so tiny that nobody notices it in a lifetime, but over millions of years it adds up to something enormous.
